CHANCES ARE... by Richard Russo

A Pulitzer Prize winner, Richard Russo writes a novel about three former college buddies (now each at age sixty-six) getting together at buddy Lincoln’s inherited cottage on Martha’s Vineyard for a weekend. It’s been forty-four years since graduating, so reminiscing about college days and life are expected, but this takes a back seat to wondering what could have happened to their friend Jacy, who disappeared soon after graduating. She was never heard from again. Lincoln, Teddy, and Mickey try to put the pieces together in this thoughtful character study and tells of each mans’s secrets they’ve kept from each other for decades. Will their friendship be powerful enough to keep them together for another decade? I was impressed by Russo’s writing style. A definite thumbs up. You’ll want to read this one. by S. M.
